HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

May 18th, 2014

We got up to 6" - 8" snow on Sunday morning. Much different from Saturday.  Good thing we didn't plan to go home before Tuesday because the roads in all directions were closed until Monday afternoon.  Felt sorry for all those people who were stranded in Laramie after graduation.

There were quite a few visitors at church who were there because they couldn't go home.

Since Shawn & Heather had their house full with Seth & Monica and their kids and Kirk & Marla, Heather found a wonderful couple in the ward that opened up their home for us.  We basically had the whole basement, nice rooms to sleep in, bathroom and great hosts that just let us come and go as we pleased.

By Sunday evening the roads were pretty clear even though it snowed all day.  It melted as it hit the roads and by Monday the roads were in good shape.  There was still a lot of snow around when we left on Tuesday but we had good roads all the way home.

  Saturday, 5-9, was Mason's baptism.  He was so excited.  Got a few pictures.

  First Mason, then Mason with Dad, Mason with Dad & Mom and then all the family that came to celebrate with him.  It was a nice day for a baptism.
After the baptism we all had lunch and then we went out to see the new place Heather and Shawn are buying.  I forgot my camera so didn't get any pictures but maybe Heather will post some on face book or something.
   We thought about going our for our anniversary but it was also the day of graduation for the university and since Shawn was BBQing elk steaks we decided to celebrate with family!

We started our trip to Laramie, WY on May 8th.  Picked Lynn up and took her with us.  We had reservations to stay in Rock Springs Thurs. night and then got to Laramie about noon on Friday.

We were entertaining ourselves by listing to a book on CD and when Dad was suppose to turn off and head a different direction he completely missed it and we ended up in Jackson Hole!  I have never been there and Lynn said that she had only been there once when she and her sister were both still at home.

We even got lost in Jackson Hole.  We decided to 

stop and get something to eat and Dad asked the girl waiting on us about the turn off he was suppose to take and she looked at him like she had no clue. She didn't!!

So there is a park in Jackson that has arches at every corner entrance of made of antlers.  That's the only thing about Jackson Lynn could remember!

So now I need to update and catch up again!
  A week or so before we went to Laramie we got a load of Black Forest mulch to put in the flower beds.  We only got the one by the driveway done, on Saturday.  I planted some hens and chicks and some pansies.  Next morning (Sunday) we saw the hens and chicks were dug up and you could clearly see where some dog had been messing around in my flower beds.  We didn't have time to do anything with it because we were on our way to church.
   That afternoon, before I got around to going out and fixing it, our little neighbor boy who has an electric car got stuck behind our car with his front wheels in the flower bed.  I heard some talking and looked out the window to see his mom and dad doing something in the flower bed and dad was chewing his son out.  I went out and told them Tray (the boy's name) did not mess up the flower bed.  His dad didn't seem to believe me at first.  I explained that it was that way in the morning when we left for church and I just hadn't gotten around to getting it fixed.  Tray still got a lecture about staying away from neighbors flower beds.
   So I got it fixed, even though I couldn't remember how I had the hens and chicks arranged the first time but it doesn't really matter.  Still haven't done any more flower beds but here's the one we do have done.

The little tree that was there we straightened up and now it's in full bloom.

The bees seem to really like it and as long as we don't bother them it will be just fine.  They must like the nectar in the flowers.

Quite some time ago, before the Boise Temple closed for renovations I met a sister that used dishes to make yard art.  I asked if I gave her some dishes if she'd make a couple for me.  I got a phone call a couple of days before we left for Laramie and she said she had my yard art done.  I had no idea what she was talking about because I had totally forgotten about it.  As we talked she reminded me who she was and what she did and then I remembered.  Here's what she did. 

 Each of them have a bowl that was Glendella's - the ones with red and green around the edges.  The little yellow bowl with scalloped edges was mine.

After I got them and looked them over I decided it wouldn't be that hard to make them.  She glues them together and then attaches them to re bar.  Clever idea.

We got curbing done this morning  so here's some pictures:  We were going to talk to the neighbor and see if they'd like to have curbing around the utilities and he just happened to come out when we were just getting started.  So we talked to him and he thought it would be great - only question was who's paying for it? He was more than happy to split the cost.

This is by the driveway. As you can see, Roger Hunt is running for office again. He said he didn't want to do it but someone talked him into it and his signs are all over the place, including ours!!

This is the back where we took out the tree and the trellis.  Hopefully I'll be able to get a start of a dark purple lilac from the neighbor to put here.  I wouldn't mind a white one to go with it but we'll see in time.

We did a bunch of work on the weeds in the back yard and I made Dad dig up this bush that was under the tree.  He also dug out the one back in the corner next to the fence but I didn't get a picture because I was busy doing my own thing!

It will take time to get things done the way we want them.  We have to get some areas worked up to put what garden I've started in.   I've got some tomato plants, butternut squash, sweet meat squash and a zucchini starts growing in the house and they will need to be planted before too long.  Sure hope we get past the frosts soon.  It was 27 degrees this morning and everything was pretty frosty.  

With all the rain we had yesterday the little red wagon had water in it and there was a thin layer of ice on top!

Tomorrow we get to rest again - going to the temple. 

IT'S RAINING TODAY so we don't have to work outside.  Maybe our sore bodies can feel better!

I'm really doing good with my blog!! NOT  I've been busy and don't think about it.  Well, I've got some pictures to post so here goes.
   One morning I looked out the back sliding door and this was how Cheyanne was laying.

Yesterday we had a family dinner for Easter.  It was a little on the windy side and the wind was a little on the chilly side.  The plan was to eat outside and even though it was cooler than Saturday we went for it.  This is a picture of Grandma & Grandpa.

Cassey was squatted down for a long time and we were wondering what she was doing.  She was actually playing with dandelions 

(of which we have to many right now!)

Later we skyped with Heather.  Grandma & Grandpa really enjoyed visiting with her and seeing the kids.

The kids had to tell us about their Easter and Mason had to tell us about his birthday.  Emma played the violin for me and did a great job.  She was holding her violin and Carter was playing with the vacuum.  Heather meant to tell him not to plug the vacuum in but she said, "Carter, don't plug the violin in."  

Justin was standing by me, watching & listening and he thought that was so funny. I don't know if I've ever seen him laugh so much.  Later he had to tell his mom about it and was still laughing!!!

 Remember the ugly bushes by the driveway in front of the house?

We took them out on Saturday and cleaned the whole flower bed out.  We're going to take the stones out and have curb put in then lay that black stuff that's suppose to keep the weeds from coming up.  I've got flowers I want to put in and we are going to try to find some rock instead of bark to put down.

 I cleaned up this flower bed too and we'll do the same here.  We're going to put stepping stones to the faucet and you can see where we started.

Today we worked in the back yard because we are going to put curb there too.

We took out the bush and the trellis and prepared for the curb.

I want to put in a lilac, an azalea and maybe a hydrangea.

Getting the bush out wasn't easy and we are both wiped out tonight.

Today I'm thankful for shovels, picks, hoola hoes, 

and a new bottle of Deep Blue Rub!!!!!!!!!!!!
